Mr. Askar is an electrical engineer with a robust background in solar energy, electrical construction, and project management. As Director of DC Solar Project Management at General Energy Corporation (GEC), he plays a pivotal role in leading solar projects from initial assessment through final commissioning.
Safi excels in bridging the gap between engineering and construction to deliver cohesive, code-compliant systems. His early career included hands-on construction experience and years spent tutoring in advanced mathematics, physics, and chemistry, showcasing both technical precision and strong communication skills.
He gained further expertise in testing and commissioning, contributing to projects like automotive fuse systems and the CTA's rail fleet, before fully transitioning to the renewable energy sector.
At GEC, Safi has successfully managed a diverse portfolio of solar installations, primarily focusing on commercial rooftop systems ranging from 10 kW to over 1 MW. He is involved in every phase of the project lifecycle, from initial site walkthroughs and electrical planning to procurement, construction oversight, commissioning, and client communication. Notably, he oversaw the delivery of a nearly 800 kW rooftop system for a park district in Illinois, which has since been operationalized.
His experience extends to ground-mount installations and practical proficiency with monitoring platforms such as Wattch, AlsoEnergy, eGauge, and CPS, including system troubleshooting and performance tracking. Safi earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
