WHO QUALIFIES
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Must be a current ComEd delivery service customer (ARES customers also eligible)
Total rated capacity not exceeding 5,000 kW
Must use a smart inverter from the Illinois Approved Inverter List
System must be primarily intended to offset the customer's electric load
Property must be owned by applicant, or applicant must have owner permission
Eligible sources: Solar PV, wind, fuel cells/microturbines (renewable), anaerobic digestion, small hydroelectric
By accepting the rebate, you agree to allow ComEd to operate and control the smart inverter(s) for grid support purposes during abnormal operating conditions (voltage and frequency excursions). For most commercial systems, this has minimal operational impact — grid support functions typically activate only during rare events.

PROGRAM DETAILS
WHAT YOU GET
ComEd's Distributed Generation Rebate (also called the Smart Inverter Rebate) provides a one-time payment for commercial solar systems equipped with smart inverters. This rebate is separate from — and stacks fully with — Illinois Shines SRECs, the federal ITC, and MACRS depreciation.
For a 500 kW commercial system, the rebate is $125,000 — paid once after system interconnection and rebate application approval. For commercial and industrial customers, taking this rebate does not affect your net metering rate. It is pure upside with no trade-off.
